JOHN CUNNINGHAM

Tenor & Countertenor 

Born and raised in Scarsdale, NY, John Cunningham graduated from Davidson College where he sang in the Davidson Male Chorus as a member of the ensemble and as a soloist.  He moved to Charleston in 1980 and, in 1983 began singing with the Charleston Symphony Chorus and in the choir at The Cathedral of St Luke and St Paul.  He has sung with the Charleston Renaissance Ensemble performing numerous concerts in and around Charleston and during Piccolo Spoleto.  He has also performed at the Piccolo Spotlight series at First Scots Presbyterian Church.  Over the years, Mr. Cunningham has performed at St Michael's Church, St. Andrews (Mt. Pleasant), Bethany United Methodist Church (Summerville), St Matthews Lutheran Church (Charleston) and with the Charleston Baroque Singers.  He continues to sing at The Cathedral of St Luke and St Paul as well as with the Singers of Summerville.  He has sung at Mepkin Abbey many times, both for Piccolo Spoleto as well as several Benefactor concerts.  Mr. Cunningham is married to Lynn Cunningham and has two children, Charlotte and Gayle.
