KYLIE SMOAK

Kylie Smoak is the Director of Bands at East Edisto Middle School and has been in education since 2021. As an educator in Dorchester District Two, she has been an active staff member with the Fort Dorchester and Ashley Ridge High School Bands and serves as a drum major coach to award-winning student conductors across the district.

While majoring in instrumental music education at the University of South Carolina, Kylie also studied voice with Dr. Johnny Felder. She has been a member of the Old St. Andrews Parish choir and the King’s Counterpoint since 2023, and is looking forward to further serving KCP as a board member and ensemble liaison this coming season.

As an instrumentalist at UofSC, Kylie studied the clarinet under Professor Joe Eller and played bass clarinet with the university’s wind ensemble for several years. She played clarinet in the university marching band, the Mighty Sound of the Southeast, for two years and served as drum major for three years. She also played trumpet in the Carolina Basketball Band and the Swing Shift Big Band. She currently remains active in her instrumental musicianship as a member of the Charleston Wind Symphony and a private clarinet lesson teacher.

Outside of her musical pursuits, Kylie is an avid Gamecock fan, dog-lover, and mom to baby girl Pearl, born in May 2025.
